The members of Fresno-Yosemite Chapter, NSDAR, eagerly look forward to the first meeting of the fall; time to catch up after the summer break and start working on various projects. The 27th annual veteran's "Stand Down" takes place in September. Stand Down is a collaborative effort between most of the local veteran organizations and the Veterans Administration (VA). They provide food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and referrals to a variety of other necessary services, such as housing, employment, and substance abuse treatment. Their motto is “Support our local heroes with a hand up, not a handout.” Our chapter helps by collecting and donating new underwear, t-shirts and socks, towels and washcloths, gently-used men's clothing, and canned goods for their food pantry.

In October, Fresno-Yosemite Chapter, NSDAR, shares an information booth at the Fresno Fair with members of other historical and lineage organizations. Our scholarship fundraising quilt will be on display, and our members will talk to the public and pass out information about NSDAR. In November, our chapter takes part in the annual Veterans Day parade (one of the largest in the West), which is televised worldwide on the American Heroes Channel. Many of our members wear colonial costume or other patriotic attire in the parade.
